Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon organized a seminar titled “Women Empowerment in Bangladesh: Breaking Boundaries, Building Futures” on Friday at the Chancery commemorating the International Women’s Day 2024.
The program included screening of a documentary on women empowerment in Bangladesh, key note presentation by the Bangladesh Ambassador.
Ambassador Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain highlighted the initiatives and achievements Bangladesh made in accordance with various targets of SDG-5 concerning gender equality & women empowerment.
While explaining this year’s theme of the day which is “Invest in women: Accelerate Progress”, Ambassador highlighted different initiatives of Bangladesh government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for preserving rights of women and creating opportunities.
He also highlighted significant achievements of Bangladesh in the areas of access to education, healthcare support for girls and women, business/entrepreneurship of women and women’s participation in decision making process and politics.
Ambassador added that Bangladesh Prime Minister has been lauded on global platforms for achieving exemplary achievements in promoting women empowerment and considered as a pioneer personality in women empowerment. He added that various initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for women empowerment are now being used as model for countries of similar socio-economic conditions.
He referred to World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Report of 2023, in which Bangladesh has emerged as the top performer in South Asia in terms of gender parity.
Heads of diplomatic missions and other diplomats from North America, Europe and South Asian missions, UN organizations including UNICEF, UNHCR, UNFPA, UNOPS, Rectors and Pro-rectors of prominent Universities in Yangon, civil society representatives, research institutions, officials of the Embassy and women entrepreneurs of Bangladesh Community in Myanmar were in attendance.
A cake was knifed to celebrate the day and the guests were hosted with light lunch.
